Off to the Airport

July 14th we took Dayton to the airport.  He was set apart as a missionary the evening before. As part of his blessing he was told there may be times on his mission that he will feel far from his mission president, but reminded that "you have been called to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth."  Dayton will be such an amazing missionary! He has a strong testimony and a such a fun personality.
Before we got to the airport Dayton realized that he had left his drivers license at home.  Gratefully he had his passport with him, so we told him we would just mail it to the mtc.  Right before we sent Dayton through security he realized that he had left his wallet in the car.  Dave went to the car quickly to get it for him.  We took pictures, hugged, and cried together and then he was off.  How is it possible that this cute little fellow that spent the last 18 years of my life raising, loving, and helping is now grown and a missionary!

Dayton got pulled out of the security line to have his bag inspected.  They wanted to get a closer look at the gold edging on his scriptures.  But then they couldn't get everything back in the bag.  The security worker asked for his help and he responded that his mom had done it! I had added a bunch of extra things for him to take out to Dallin and remembered thinking at the time that I was glad this bag wouldn't be reopened until Dallin could get his things.  The delay, combined with his flight leaving 10 minutes early (to compensate to it being delayed 30 minutes) made him miss his flight.  Instead of a direct flight, he ended up being routed to Atlanta where he missed his connecting flight.  What a stressful day it was for him with no phone to communicate.  He borrowed phones from people around him.  But I didn't have my phone on me throughout the day and Dave sometimes didn't answer from numbers that he didn't recognize which added to his stress.  He finally made it to grandma Talbot's around 3 am.  We were very grateful for uncle Todd for picking him up at such a late hour and taking him to Subway to feed him!
