On Monday we Flew out to anchorage and we were hosted by another companionship. we spent our Pday hiking Flat Tops, it was fun to hike, I haven’t been in a while. Then we went to the church and were playing sports, volleyball, basketball and spike ball. The elders that hosted us for the night were in charge of the YSA ward. So, we got to go with them for an activity that they had that night. it was fun, we got to play soccer.
On Tuesday we had zone conference, which is the when reason why we were in Anchorage. It was long, but I sure did learn a lot about being a missionary. I took three things out of the conference.
1. Always be exactly obedient, even in the small things as a missionary. by doing so I have already had prayers answered and small miracles occur.
2. I learned that prayer should always be sincere and be done with real intent. I just had a picture in my head that when we pray we are at the throne of God and talking to him. When i pictured that, it helped me understand that he is listening to my prayers and it’s really the only time we can communicate with heavenly father.
3. I also received a better understanding that i have to be converted first before I can help others on their way. This is so true, and i sure do feel that its my job to help others come closer to Christ.
On Wednesday we flew back to Kodiak. It’s cool, every time we fly we meet at least one LDS person at the airport and get to talk to people who ask us why we are in suits at 6am in the morning. from zone conference we also were told to get a list in our ward of over aged youth that haven’t been baptized, part member families, and perspective elders. We started going through the whole directory today. We are starting from the top and are going to try and talk to each less active home. I did not realize how many people fall away from the church and stop attending. we probably have 70 to 90 people come every week. But, on the directory there are at least 4 pages of people who don’t come. in my opinion trying to help them, or bring them back to church is just as important as teaching investigators.
On Thursday, we went tracting for 2 hours, we have had good conversations with people but no one has been interested in the message we have for them. After our studying for the day, we went out and contacted less actives in the ward. in some cases they don’t even live there anymore. They just take off and don’t tell anyone.
On Saturday I got to meet the bishop of my ward, he has been out of town flying planes to different islands. I really like the Area book App as well as the map they give us on our tablets. it was really exciting because we went to a man house whose name was clark. On Area book it said he was a potential investigator and so we met with him real quick but he told us that he was busy but that we could come back. So we are going to go back next Saturday. The work is slow out here according to our mission president so he told me just to do my best and that’s what I’ve been shooting for. I also got to talk to a homeless man today. he was just sitting on a bench next to his walker. We talked and I gave him a book of Mormon and bore my testimony to him. it was hard though because he has lots of issues that can’t really solve for him. like smoking, and kept asking for clothes and food. but I enjoy sharing a message with people when I see the opportunity. And who knows maybe he will read the book.
Also I wanted to answer moms questions. No I haven't gotten to teach my first lesson because the one investigator we had before I even got here is in anchorage getting her visa. She's from the Philippines. I haven't even gotten to meet her yet, but like I said we are trying to contact less actives as well as tract every other day if we have time. But I'm hoping and praying that Clark will want us to teach him and for his life to change because our message. Also I want mom to share with me tomorrow how the eclipse is. I'm super interested . Haha that's funny that Devin and Danita love plane rides. I have been on more plane rides the past month then my whole life haha. I'm keeping tract over every time I go on a plane and where just so I can look back and see on a map where all i have traveled . It will be cool to look back again .
I’m really happy, but sure do miss and love you all. I want to hear from all of you soon. P.S. there are probably lots of grammar errors but that’s because we email on our tablets and the words don’t have the magical red line under the words to tell you if you spelled them wrong, so if you don’t mind just fix it up a bit before sending it to anyone else. Thanks! I just don’t have time to double check my email, it’s time to go fishing ;)
here are some pics from this week. I can send pics of the fish next week, I’m about to go fishing with Elder Guerber. by the way the salad picture is just a cool pic I took. it’s a salad we ate, it had real flowers in it that were hot and spicy. everything in the bowl was from their garden. Have a great week, all is well until we meet again. by the way Alaska is beautiful and very green. if I don’t come home you’ll know where I’ll be.
